Algeria and Brazil have signed a health agreement allowing the importation of live Brazilian sheep into Algeria, a decision announced on August 19, 2025. For Brazil, this represents a commercial opportunity, particularly for its northern and northeastern regions, where sheep farming plays a major economic role.

This agreement follows Algeria's imports for Eid al-Adha 2025, when sheep from Romania and Spain were imported due to the high cost of local animals.

Trade relations between the two countries are strengthening: Brazilian agricultural exports to Algeria exceeded $2.2 billion in 2024, while Brazil's imports from Algeria totalled $413.8 million in the first months of 2025, down 22%. Oil dominates Algerian exports to Brazil, followed by fertilizers.

In 2024, the total volume of trade between Algeria and Brazil reached $4.32 billion, marking a 13.68% increase over the previous year.
