Guelma: projected production of 236,000 quintals of industrial chilli peppers

Samira Helassi, head of the agricultural extension office, said that the processing plant in the municipality of Bouati-Mahmoud has “opened to receive farmers’ entire harvest of red chilli peppers for the production of harissa.”

Food Industry

The industrial chilli pepper harvest, which runs until November, covers 782 hectares in the province, far exceeding the initial target of 475 hectares. This increase also applies to the targeted areas, which are up from the previous season (527 hectares). The expected yield is 340 quintals per hectare, illustrating the farmers' technical expertise. To date, 12,450 quintals have been harvested on 36.5 hectares, a result considered promising for achieving the seasonal targets.
