Towards sustainable fishing by 2029: Badani unveils the sector's priorities

Last Thursday in Algiers, Ahmed Badani, Minister of Fishing and Halieutic Productions, chaired a national meeting to evaluate the sector's activities for 2024.

At a dedicated meeting, the Minister of Fishing and Halieutics, Mr Badani, presented a review of the 2024 achievements and the strategic outlook for 2025-2029. He highlighted the industry's importance for the economy and food security while pointing out challenges such as climate change and the modernization of resources.


Key measures include

 

·         Investment support: Easier access to land for shipbuilding and repair, import of used vessels and engines, and tax exemptions for aquaculture.

·         Promotion of aquaculture: Encouragement of floating cage projects and administrative simplifications for operators.

·         Fleet modernization: Replacement of small boats by high-capacity vessels, integrating advanced technologies such as sonar.

·         Improving working conditions: Developing harbours, providing social services, and creating cooperatives to structure the sector.


The minister also stressed the importance of digitization, training, and swift project implementation to enhance the sector’s contribution to Algeria’s food security and economic growth.
