TSGP, electrical interconnection: Afreximbank ready to support African integration projects led by Algeria

On Thursday in Algiers, the Chairman of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), Mr. Benedict Oramah, stated that his institution was willing to support energy projects launched by Algeria as part of its efforts to promote African economic integration, particularly the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project and regional electricity interconnection projects.

The Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab, received Afreximbank President Benedict Oramah to discuss opportunities for bilateral cooperation. This meeting, organized in the presence of the Secretary of State for Renewable Energy, provided an opportunity to address several areas of partnership, including the financing of energy projects, the promotion of intra-African trade, the development of natural resources (hydrocarbons, fertilizers, phosphates), and support for regional integration projects.

The minister presented the major infrastructure projects in the sector: hydrocarbon exploitation, electrification, renewable energy, seawater desalination, and regional electrical interconnections. He highlighted Algeria's commitment to the continent's energy development and to major projects such as the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP).

Benedict Oramah praised Algeria's central role in African integration, highlighting the need to transform local resources to generate added value. He reaffirmed Afreximbank's commitment to supporting projects in energy, agriculture, and manufacturing industries, emphasizing the strategic importance of the TSGP for regional energy security.
