Air transport: private airlines about to take off

New players could soon join Algeria's air transport sector. The Minister of Transport, Mohamed Habib Zahana, announced on Saturday that three private operators had submitted their dossiers to the Ministry to obtain the necessary approval to carry out this activity. This statement was made on the sidelines of a symposium on civil aviation safety, organized by Air Algérie.

The ministry is currently examining the files of Algerian companies that have already invested in various sectors and now wish to expand their activities into air transport. According to the Minister, these files must meet all regulatory requirements and secure adequate financing to be successful.

Mr Zahana also stressed his ministry's commitment to helping these operators complete their files and implement their projects.

Concerning maritime transport, the Minister announced that a private company is preparing to launch passenger transport services to complement those already provided by Algérie Ferries. This initiative could offer travellers an additional option for their sea journeys.

These initiatives mark a new departure in the government's strategy of opening up the transport sector to private initiatives to boost supply and diversify users' services.
