Several Algerian companies specializing in the recovery of plastic waste presented their innovative solutions for promoting the circular economy and reducing the environmental impact of plastics to visitors to the show, which attracted over 300 exhibitors from 21 countries. Exporose, a young company based in Oran is an example of this dynamic.

Specializing in recycling plastic bottles (water and juice), it transforms this waste into raw material for export, mainly to Spain. Company manager Naïrouz Khelafi tells APS: "We crush bottles collected from landfill sites, with whom we are contracted".

We also collect a small share from waste collectors." This initiative aims to reduce the amount of plastic dumped in landfills and support the export of quality recycled materials to Europe. Exporose has no intention of stopping there. The company plans to broaden its activities by embarking on the incineration of special and hazardous waste, a project currently under study.

Another recycling player attending the show, Setif Chemicals, is taking a similar approach, reintegrating recycled material offcuts into its manufacturing processes. The company specializes in PVC and HDPE pipes for sanitation and drilling and reuses plastic waste directly into new products.

"We are proud to contribute to the circular economy by reusing our plastic waste in the manufacture of new tubes for the construction and public works sector," Setif Chemicals representative Mohamed-Amin Cheoual told APS. Organized under the theme "Plast & Printpack driving a circular economy", the event brought together key players in the recycling industry, underlining the importance of sustainability in manufacturing plastic products.

"Algeria is actively working to improve the sustainability of the sector, with a particular focus on sustainable materials, recycling and the circular economy", said Paul Marz, head of the German Fairtrade company, and organizer of the show.

According to him, the Algerian plastics industry appears well-positioned to respond to environmental challenges, while stimulating the local economy and becoming part of a global sustainability dynamic.
