Strengthening Algerian-Mauritanian cooperation: Rekhroukh receives a parliamentary delegation

As part of efforts to strengthen fraternal relations between Algeria and Mauritania, the Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Mr Lakhdar Rekhroukh, received this Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the headquarters of his ministerial department, a delegation from the Algerian-Mauritanian Parliamentary Friendship Group led by Mr Mostefa Souhib, attended by the Mauritanian ambassador to Algiers, Mr Sidi Mohamed Abdallah.

The meeting reaffirmed the two countries' deep historical ties and desire to raise bilateral cooperation to new heights. Discussions focused on the current state of cooperation in the public works and basic infrastructure sector and on ways of expanding it through an approach based on shared interests.

 

The two sides stressed the importance of diversifying the axes of cooperation and promoting joint investment in major infrastructure projects, including roads, railroads and automated transport systems, as key levers for development and regional integration.

 

The strategic Tindouf-Zouérat road project, currently under construction, was also discussed. It embodies the shared desire of both countries to strengthen their land connectivity and facilitate trade and travel between the two shores of the Sahara.

 

On this occasion, the Minister presented Algeria's experience in infrastructure development, highlighting the significant progress made in the railway sector, as part of the national railway program initiated by the President of the Republic. He expressed Algeria's readiness to share its know-how with Mauritania, notably through exchanges of expertise and training initiatives.

 

For his part, Mr. Mostefa Souhib hailed the level of development achieved by Algeria in terms of infrastructure, while reaffirming his parliamentary group's support for all initiatives aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. He described the Tindouf-Zouérat road project as a strategic priority for economic integration between the two countries.

 

The meeting concluded with a call to pursue coordination efforts and implement concrete projects in the various fields related to public works, to meet the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.
