The aim is to promote non-hydrocarbon exports and increase export volumes to several international destinations, notably ports in Egypt and Russia. In his remarks, Mr Belarbi highlighted that the Chinese shipping company forecasts strong growth in its traffic at the port of Algiers in 2025.
In figures, this achievement translates into an increase from two port calls, representing 750 containers in 2024, to sixteen port calls totalling 4,013 containers in 2025, representing a 700% increase in volume. Impressive! As for Sogemco, which leaves no stone unturned in its efforts to contribute to Algeria's national export promotion drive, it has big ambitions. Its chief executive speaks of them with pride.
"Our goal for 2026 is to increase non-hydrocarbon export volumes, particularly agri-food products, dates, iron and plastic waste," explains the same official. He explains that the shipping partner is "ready to provide us with its ships and containers, to ensure better maritime services, with optimised delivery times, competitive rates and all the necessary logistics and infrastructure, as well as access to numerous international destinations and ports with which Algeria has excellent relations."
Sogemco's commitment does not stop there. The company has established itself as a key player in maritime transport and a partner for Algerian exporters and operators wishing to invest in global markets. According to its CEO, the company's motto is to "develop a genuine synergy of sharing and experience" with its partners. Supporting economic operators in their export activities will, among other things, "minimise transport costs and delays". Responding to our questions, Mr Belarbi announced that, in addition to OVP Shipping, the company he heads plans to expand the network to other foreign partners, including Turkish ones.
To successfully implement its strategy, Sogemco, explains its CEO, relies on "a vast network of shipping agents covering all Algerian ports, to provide comprehensive support and technical assistance for export operations. Engaged in shipping agency services since 1997 and a member of the international NAXCO group, a leader in the maritime sector, Sogemco is involved in all segments of the transport chain, from shipping agency to port services, for various types of cargo ships, containerised or otherwise, departing from and arriving at Algerian and international commercial ports.
OVP Shipping is an international container shipping service provider founded in 2020 that manages a fleet of over 200,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) containers and more than 15,000 rail platforms for intermodal transport.
