During the 20th edition of the International Public Works Fair, Abdelkader Mazar, director of communications at Anesrif, said the 950-km railway project will be completed before March 2026. The companies have almost completed the routes and earthworks, allowing the laying of the rails to begin. Innovative earthmoving techniques were used, including manufacturing prestressed concrete sleepers, with a production capacity of 5,400 units/day.
The project is divided into three sections:
- The first, covering 200 km, links Bechar to the borders of Béni Abbès.
- The second section, 175 km long, links Oum El Assel to Tindouf.
- The third section of 575 km, managed by the Chinese company CRCC, is divided into two sections: from km 200 to Oum El Assel (440 km) and from Tindouf to Gara Djebilet (135 km).
Mazar also mentioned the High Plateaux project, which runs from Tébessa to Sidi Bel Abbès, that most sections have been completed; the last section, linking Tissemsilt to the west of Tiaret, was recently inaugurated. He also mentioned the 154km Touggourt-Hassi Messaoud line, which is progressing well and should be completed soon.
For CRCC, the deputy general manager for North Africa confirmed that the Tindouf-Gara Djebilet section will be completed in 2025, with earthworks finished by early 2025 and the art structures ready by March 2025. The company has set up production units to ensure rapid completion of the works, mobilising over 1,600 pieces of heavy equipment and 3,500 Algerian workers.
The Bechar-Tindouf-Gara Djebilet project, which broke ground in November 2023, is one of Algeria's mega-projects opening up new development prospects through the exploitation of mineral resources.
