In a difficult economic climate, some Algerian industries are showing encouraging signs of growth. The energy sector continues to rise by 4.0% in the first quarter of 2025, confirming its key role in the energy transition. The wood industry rebounds strongly (+19.6%), driven by general joinery (+112.9%) and furniture (+26.8%). The leather industries continued their recovery (+13.1%), thanks to consumer goods (+23.1%) and intermediate goods (+6.1%), illustrating a clear improvement in competitiveness. The building materials sector grew slightly (+1.5%) thanks to red products (+37.3%), despite the downturn in cement (-3.5%) and glass (-7.2%).
On the other hand, several sectors experienced sharp declines. Hydrocarbons were down by 3.3%, notably due to the fall in natural gas liquefaction (-17.5%) and oil refining (-2.2%). The mining sector fell by 3.7%, affecting most branches except mineral extraction (+92.7%). ISMMEE industries fell by 41.7% after a rebound, although the manufacture of electrical consumer goods enjoyed exceptional growth (+386.8%). The chemical and agri-food industries continue to decline (-11.3% and -10.2% respectively), and textiles are also down (-4.9%).
