In a speech read on his behalf by Mr Farid Harouadi, Inspector General of the Ministry, at the Algerian Conference on the Blue Economy, Mr Badani affirmed that 75 innovative projects and startups linked to the sector had received the label from the ad hoc national commission.
Mr Badani specified that 34 of these companies are currently at "advanced" stages, recalling that the latter was active in the different stages of production, including the manufacture of equipment for aquaculture, the production of sea bream fry, the cultivation and processing of algae such as spirulina and Azolla as well as intensive organic aquaculture systems.
As for incubators, the sector recorded the creation of 12 labelled incubators, said the minister, recalling the launch of the first sectoral incubator "AQUA-INCUB" at the level of the National Research and Development Center for Fisheries and Aquaculture (CNRDPA).
The sector is currently working to connect these incubators to the various training establishments in the sector in order to enable them to support project leaders across the national territory following an economic approach, adds Mr Badani.
Referring to the results achieved by the sector, the minister recalled the production of nearly 120,000 tonnes of fishery products at the end of 2023, including 7,000 tonnes from marine aquaculture, as well as the creation of 134 aquaculture farms including 77 in the marine environment and 57 in freshwater, which made it possible to populate 16,000 aquaculture ponds.
The good performance of these basins will allow the sowing of others, to reach 100,000 basins by 2030, he stressed.
For his part, the Minister of the Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, specified that the companies labelled Innovative Project active in the field of the blue economy, will allow the optimal and more rational exploitation of Mediterranean resources.
Reiterating his sector's support for all companies and businessmen in the field of the blue economy, Mr Oualid indicated that several of them have the desire to preserve the environment and not only to seek profitability.
