Kamel Agsous, President of the Algerian Subcontracting Exchange, pointed out that Algeria has some 1,200 subcontracting companies in various sectors, of which almost 200 can supply local automakers with automotive parts. When the Fiat plant in Tafraoui was inaugurated in December 2023, 12 suppliers were identified, some of whom already supply the Renault plant in Tlélat.
At the Equip Auto Algeria after-sales trade show, 29 national automotive parts manufacturers were present. However, some Algerian products are finding it difficult to establish themselves on the national market due to a lack of image and competition following the cessation of imports of local products.
A case in point is Iris Tires, often criticized on social networks. Despite this, growing demand has led Saterex Iris to double its production capacity from 2 to 4 million tyres by the third quarter of 2025. The company plans to launch a network of service outlets to better manage the image and distribution of its tyres, as unjustified price hikes by retailers have damaged its reputation. The Stellantis group has chosen Iris Tyres to equip Fiat vehicles produced in Algeria.
Despite the difficulties, effective communication and time will enable Algerian products to find their place on the local market.
