"In accordance with the measures outlined in the 2024 Finance Law, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Productions is calling on fishermen and shipowners wishing to import used ship engines under 5 years old to contact the Fisheries and Aquaculture Directorates and Chambers across the national territory to inquire and submit their applications," the statement said.

Improving the performance of the fishing fleet

This measure, which is of "great importance," will help "address the problems faced by fishermen and shipowners, given the numerous mechanical breakdowns experienced especially in old vessels," which can contribute to "improving the performance of the fishing fleet and increasing the volume of national fish production," the same source added.

The required documentation to benefit from the import authorization for engines includes "a completed and signed customs clearance request (available at the Fisheries and Aquaculture Directorates and Chambers), a copy of the fishing authorization or permit, as well as a copy of the commercial registry of the legal entity," the ministry clarified. "A proforma invoice issued by a supplier containing the engine's serial number" must also be included in the application, "in addition to a technical specifications sheet of the imported engine," the statement concluded.
