During his visit to the project's main control room, equipped with the latest control and safety technologies, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of this project, which will improve the quality of unleaded petrol, reduce import costs and pave the way for exports.
The progress rate for this unit, which has an estimated production capacity of 200,000 tonnes annually of methyl tert-butyl ether, an essential additive in the manufacture of unleaded petrol, has reached 86%. According to the project's technical specifications, this facility is scheduled to come into service in July of this year.
According to the same source, this project will reduce MTBE imports and meet refineries' current needs for this substance, while also utilising the methanol produced by the "CP1 Z" complex, of which 75,000 tonnes per year are expected to be processed, as well as the butane produced by the "GP2 Z" complex, with an estimated processing volume of 150,000 tonnes per year.
This project created 3,500 jobs during the construction phase. Once operational, it is expected to generate at least 200 jobs.
It should be noted that the Prime Minister was accompanied on this visit by the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy, Mourad Adjal, the Minister of Finance, Abdelkrim Bouzred, the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Abdelhak Saihi, the CEO of the Sonatrach Group, Noureddine Daoudi, and the Secretary General of the General Union of Algerian Workers, Amar Takdjout.
