Digitizing the fishing industry: creating platforms to improve public service

ALGIERS- Ahmed Badani, Minister of Fisheries and Fisheries Productions, said on Tuesday in Algiers that his sector had recently undergone a digital transformation through the creation of several applications and platforms aimed at effectively addressing the concerns of professionals and modernizing and improving public service.

In a speech delivered at the opening of a national conference on the digitization of the fishing and aquaculture sector, Mr Badani considered that the digital orientation adopted was aimed at simplifying its management increasing its capacities, and even encouraging investment in its activities, given that this is an important sector that contributes to strengthening food security.

 

A registration platform for fishing and aquaculture training has been set up, aiming to reach the largest possible number of people wishing to train in the sector's specialities and to provide “a fluid digital framework reinforcing the capacity of human resources in this vital sector”. In addition to the “Al-Bahar” application which enables professionals to register with the wilayas' fishing chambers. The Minister also noted the introduction of an application for monitoring and addressing the professionals' concerns.

 

Mr Badani revealed that other similar applications are being implemented, notably for updating the statistical information system, the remote ship monitoring system and the geographic information system, stating the importance of these means to "adopt best administrative practices likely to contribute to the sustainability of marine biological resources".

Several interventions were presented on this occasion concerning the digital platform creation for the fishing sector and the digitalization projects carried out by the Algerian Chamber of Fisheries and Aquaculture (CAPA).


On the sidelines of this conference, the Minister of Fisheries and Fisheries Production chaired a signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between the startup "Martis" and the business incubator "Iamal" related to the exchange of expertise and marketing of the startup's products via the "Iamal" platform.

 

In the same context, the Minister pointed to the platform launch of the incentive premium for tilapia producers, designed to encourage participation in this program, increase production of this type of fish and improve quality, in addition to the platform dedicated to import authorizations for engines for vessels less than 5 years old, to modernize the national fishing fleet and improve its performance.

 

The incubator offers the possibility of financing small-scale projects in aquaculture and fishing through the launch of 10 new projects ready with an economic feasibility study following the provisions of Islamic Sharia law, as explained by the organizers.
