Although still in the development phase, the circular economy in Algeria is benefiting from several initiatives and political support aimed at transforming the traditional linear economic model. Karim Ouamane, former Director General of the National Waste Agency, highlights opportunities in agriculture, such as the valorization of organic waste to produce compost, and in renewable energy potential to support clean and circular industries.

Challenges include updating regulations and integrating circular practices into daily activities. According to the experts, public policies that support innovation, digitalization and research are crucial, as are tangible economic incentives and stronger support for technical and economic actors.  Finally, education and training are key to reinforcing this transition to a sustainable model, maximising Algeria's ecological, economic and social potential.
