The construction materials sector "contributed to achieving 100% Algerian housing."

Le ministre de l’Habitat de l’Urbanisme et de la Ville, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, highlighted on Sunday the remarkable evolution of the construction sector in Algeria, attributing this to the "qualitative steps" taken by construction companies as well as companies specializing in construction materials, particularly cement and reinforced steel.

"After many years of dependency and depletion of the public treasury through imports, Algeria has managed to achieve self-sufficiency in the production of cement, clinker, reinforced steel, ceramics, and various construction materials, according to international standards," continued the minister during his visit to several booths at the inauguration of the 26th edition of the International Building, Construction Materials, and Public Works Exhibition (Batimatec 2024), held at the Exhibition Palace (Pins Maritimes) in Algiers.

"The construction materials sector has become a source of pride for us as it has contributed to the achievement of the goal of building 100% Algerian housing," the minister stated, adding that "the construction sector now utilizes Algerian products of international quality."

The ministerial delegation spent considerable time at the booths of national companies, notably at the booth of the Algerian Cement Group "GICA" and that of the "Cosider" group, as well as at the booth of the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company (AQS) in Jijel, in addition to public and private companies specialized in various branches, such as building studies and technical control, and the manufacturing of plaster and ceramics.

In this context, Mr. Belaribi highlighted the development achieved by the "Cosider" group, which plays a major role in the realization of the national program for public facilities and building, urging the company's officials to continue their efforts to secure more major projects within the country and to access the African market.

Regarding the 26th edition of Batimatec 2024, Mr. Belaribi emphasized that it reflects "a new mindset among national economic operators, including young people who are increasingly turning to exports." This orientation promises that the exhibition will culminate in the realization of partnerships between national companies and foreign economic operators, according to the minister.
