1st section of the Béchar-Gara Djebilet line inaugurated: Algeria charts its mining course

On Thursday, the President of the Republic inaugurated the first section of the Béchar-Tindouf-Gara Djebilet mega-rail line, marking a decisive step in realising this structuring project.

The 100 km Béchar-Abadla rail link, inaugurated by President Tebboune, marks the start of a 950 km logistics corridor designed to open up south-western Algeria and exploit the Gara Djebilet iron ore deposit. This project, part of the economic recovery plan, combines economic, industrial, and social dimensions. The modern railway station at Abadla and the technical infrastructure that has been built are testimony to the scale of the work carried out by public enterprises. Ultimately, the line will enable massive freight and passenger transport, and promote regional integration to trans-Saharan connectivity. Overall acceptance is scheduled for March 2026.
