Algeria aims to double its fish production by 2030

In a Sunday appearance on Algerian Radio Channel 3's “L'invité du jour” program, Ahmed Bidani, Algeria's Minister of Fishing and Halieutic Production, stated that Algeria aims to double its halieutic production by 2030.

news-detail

Algeria's annual fish production, which has remained stable at 100,000 tons for over 30 years, is insufficient to meet growing demand. The minister stressed the challenges in the key sector from resource management and the improvement of distribution networks, which now include a modernised cold chain.

The Ministry's aquaculture development strategy aims to increase production by 60,000 tons in marine aquaculture and 40,000 tons in freshwater by 2030. Meanwhile, a fisheries resource assessment campaign shows a decrease, requiring reinforced management measures to preserve these resources.
