Algeria's National Livestock and Poultry Authority (ONAB) has launched a new tender to buy 240,000 tonnes of maize, mainly from Argentina or Brazil. This operation follows a previous tender for 80,000 tonnes and is aimed at meeting demand for animal feed. The maize is expected to be delivered between 1 and 15 December in six lots of 30,000 to 40,000 tonnes each.  However, the country aims to reduce its import dependency by developing local production of corn, a strategic crop for the national economy. Recently, President Tebboune announced measures to ensure self-sufficiency in corn, barley and durum wheat shortly.
