Algeria has made a qualitative leap in railway development

ALGIERS - On Tuesday, the International Union of Railways (UIC) hailed Algeria's “ambitious and interesting” railroad projects and those currently underway, saying that Algeria has made a qualitative leap forward in developing this type of project.

Jesus Palma, a representative of the UIC, praised Algeria's progress in developing major railway projects, particularly in the Saharan regions, despite the geographical challenges, at a study day organized by ANESRIF. He admired Algeria's achievements and stressed the importance of understanding the solutions adopted to develop infrastructure in these regions.

Algeria occupies a privileged position in Africa playing a major role in the link between Africa and Europe. UIC is ready to strengthen cooperation with Algeria, particularly in technical support and training.

During this study day, participants discussed technical solutions in railway signalling and telecommunications, highlighting the importance of innovation for infrastructure development. Representatives of international companies and Algerian research centres presented techniques based on 4G and 5G internet to improve train circulation and protect railways from natural hazards.
