The date harvest in Ouled Djellal is going well this year, with high-quality yields, particularly in Doucen and Besbès. Zekri Salem, secretary-general of the Chamber of Agriculture, highlighted the government's support in combating Boufaroua disease. However, market saturation due to abundant supply has led to a price drop, with wholesale prices ranging from 100 to 400 dinars.
Investment in date palm cultivation continues to grow, supported by a national
program to plant one million palm trees by 2030. The government is also
promoting direct sales from producers to consumers, and the International Date
Exhibition, scheduled for 21-23 November at SAFEX, will provide networking
opportunities for industry stakeholders.
In the Biskra region, the harvest is expected to exceed 4 million quintals, a
10% increase from last year. Local authorities have implemented measures to
protect date palms from disease, helping growers to maintain their yields.
