Investment in the Pharmaceutical Industry: Hindrance cleared for 90% of applications

news-detail

During an oral question session at the Council of the Nation, chaired by Mr Salah Goudjil, President of APN, and in response to a question from Senator Habib Douagui on the measures taken to remove the administrative obstacles encountered by private investors in the pharmaceutical industry, Mr Aoun said that, since taking up his post at the head of the sector in September 2022, he had given priority to "removing the obstacles encountered by private investors in this field". He went on to explain that "three months later, the operation has been facilitated for 90% of the 585 applications (investment requests) submitted to the Ministry and still unanswered, which mainly concern the production of antihistamines and other medicines in short supply on the national market".

Mr Aoun added that the removal of barriers to investment had enabled the sector to cover 68% of the national market's needs in medicines, noting that the remaining 32% mainly concerned anti-cancer drugs. In order to make these drugs available, certain investors had been granted facilities, which had enabled one factory to produce types of anticancer drugs intended exclusively for hospitals, he said.
