Algeria: Agricultural innovation, a strategic lever for food security

Benaoui Mustapha, an expert in agriculture and water resources, has highlighted the importance of agricultural innovation in meeting the sector's current challenges. According to him, the integration of modern technologies, such as the use of connected machinery, specialized software or satellite images, can increase yields, while ensuring the sustainability of farms.

He also stressed the need for a new agricultural map to identify regional potential and boost production. Innovations, combined with traditional practices such as crop rotation, are essential to adapt to bio-economic developments and climate change.

In addition, Benaoui stressed the importance of incentives, including subsidies for agricultural equipment, storage capacity and price regulation. These initiatives, supported by agricultural reforms, are aimed at modernizing farms and structuring sectors to ensure better organization of supply.

Finally, he praised public policies, notably the bank loans made available to farmers under the impetus of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to support investment and strengthen national food security.
