Saidal Group: Dr Sihem Aouabdi appointed head of CRDI

On Tuesday, Mourad Belkhelfa, CEO of the Saidal Group, officially appointed Dr Sihem Aouabdi as the new Director of the Research, Development, and Innovation Centre (CRDI), in the presence of the group's senior executives.

According to a statement from the Group, "this appointment is part of Saidal's overall strategy to consolidate its scientific and technological capabilities, while promoting the skills of the Algerian diaspora. Through this approach, the group is affirming its desire to draw on high-level expertise to support its transformation into an innovative and competitive pharmaceutical industry."

After graduating in medicine from the University of Algiers in 1998, Dr Sihem Aouabdi continued her academic training in the United Kingdom at the University of Surrey, where she obtained a Master's degree (MSc) and then a PhD in 2005. She has over 20 years of experience in biomedical research, with recognised expertise in stem cells, regenerative medicine and public health.

Her international career has been marked by senior positions at leading scientific institutions, notably at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. She has also collaborated with the Ministry of Health Affairs of the National Guard in Saudi Arabia, where she served as principal investigator on several strategic research projects.

Dr Aouabdi also contributed to the creation of a stem cell biobank and the establishment of a stem cell manufacturing unit that complies with international standards of good manufacturing practice (CGMP).

Highly involved in the scientific community, she has participated in numerous international conferences and served on expert committees. In Algeria, she is a founding member of the Association des Compétences Algériennes (ACA), working to strengthen ties between the diaspora and national researchers.

On this occasion, Mr Belkhelfa emphasised "the importance of defining a structured action plan and a clear organisational chart to achieve Saidal's strategic objectives, particularly in terms of developing innovative molecules".

He also emphasised "the need to transition to biological treatments and implement training programmes aligned with international standards."
