Large retail in Algeria: Auchan hypermarket to open before the end of the year

A first 5,000 m² area-based Auchan hypermarket will open in Algiers before the end of the year. Further development across the country is announced, without further details. “To continue and accelerate our development on the African continent, we are entering into a global partnership with one of the major distribution players in Algeria,” said Yves Claude, CEO of Auchan Retail. Our common ambition is threefold: to offer people a different racing experience, to offer them products that are good for their health and for the planet, and to contribute to the development of Algeria by encouraging the creation of local agricultural sectors and agri-food production.” Algeria thus becomes the 14th country of establishment of Auchan in the world and the 3rd in Africa, after Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire. It will be the first major foreign chain to invest in the Algerian market, which is currently suffering from the breaking up of commercial activity.
