Two cereal storage centres, each with a capacity of 50,000 quintals, are currently being constructed in the wilaya of El-Meniaâ, in El-Meniaâ and Hassi El-Gara communes. These facilities aim to meet the growing storage needs following substantial harvests, including 830,000 quintals produced last season. For the 2024/2025 campaign, 22,000 hectares have been dedicated to cereal farming, supported by over 100 irrigation pivots.
These projects are part of a national program to enhance agricultural storage infrastructure, including 11 additional facilities and a silo with a 1-million-quintal capacity planned for the El-Meniaâ region. During the project’s inauguration, El-Meniaâ’s governor, Mokhtar Benmalek, emphasized the importance of adhering to construction standards and deadlines.
Local agricultural operators have welcomed this initiative, which aims to guarantee optimum conditions for storing cereals and support strategic crops in the region.
