ALGIERS - Société Nationale de Commercialisation et de Distribution de Produits Pétroliers (Naftal) (National Company for the Marketing and Distribution of Petroleum Products) records around 42,000 transactions per month via TPE (Electronic Payment Terminal) at its service stations and is aiming to increase this number through a series of measures to be implemented shortly, according to an official from the state-owned company.

Thanks to a partnership with BEA, Naftal has achieved some 42,000 monthly transactions via CIB and Edahabia cards at its petrol stations. Last October, Naftal strengthened this partnership to encourage its affiliated petrol stations to use e-payment by equipping them with POS terminals. Naftal is also planning to introduce instant payment systems and QR code payments, as well as a loyalty programme to encourage the use of e-payments. Although the current number of electronic transactions is considered modest compared to the 17 million cards in circulation, efforts are underway to increase this adoption. In addition, the "Naftal Card" service for businesses recorded more than 9.7 million transactions in 2024 and has 9,000 customers, replacing 95% of fuel vouchers. Naftal continues to deploy compatible equipment in all its service stations and 85% of its affiliated private stations.
