This strategic infrastructure is intended to strengthen the port facility's operational capabilities and support local and regional socio-economic development. According to the same sources, the Wali of Jijel is paying particular attention to this project, which is of major importance for the economic development of the wilaya, which is set to become a leading industrial hub, notably thanks to the presence of the Algerian-Qatari steel complex in Bellara. This importance explains the numerous inspection visits carried out on a regular basis by the head of the local executive, in order to closely monitor the progress of work on this strategic infrastructure. During the last assessment visit, the wali inquired about compliance with contractual deadlines and the required quality standards. The findings on this occasion indicate that the project is nearing completion. Through firm instructions, the head of the wilaya urged the project owner, the design office and the construction company to complete all the work within the agreed deadlines. To this end, he demanded that the terminal be fully operational by the second quarter of 2026 at the latest, i.e. by next June.

According to our sources, the wali announced that he will personally oversee the official handover of the project. To ensure rigorous monitoring and accelerate the pace of work, he has also decided to make weekly visits to the site, emphasising technical compliance, safety and quality of workmanship. The official also stressed the strategic importance of this infrastructure for strengthening the role of the port of Djen Djen as a driver of commercial and economic development. The commissioning of this container terminal should contribute to a significant increase in the volume of goods handled and facilitate trade, while attracting new investors likely to participate in the revival of local and regional economic activity. In addition to its economic impact, the project is also expected to generate direct and indirect jobs, thereby helping to reduce unemployment. Once the modernisation work has been completed, particularly at the container terminal, the port of Djen Djen should experience a new dynamic, promoting the development of the transport, logistics, services and trade sectors. As part of this modernisation, a study is also underway to extend the port, with a view to increasing its capacity, optimising the organisation of logistics and trade flows, and consolidating its position as a pillar of development for the wilaya. It should be noted that the port of Djen Djen is one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean and is a strategic lever for promoting non-hydrocarbon exports.
