On 27 November, Mohamed Meziane, Wali of Tarf, and Hicham El Hassoumi, Governor of Jendouba, inaugurated the second session of the "AFTIAS" programme (Aid for Trade Initiative for Arab States). This initiative aims to promote economic development and cross-border trade between the Algerian region of Tarf and the Tunisian region of Jendouba, positioning them as a model of cross-border cooperation.

Programme goals:

To explore opportunities for economic development in the border regions.
Increase trade between the two regions.
To build strong economic partnerships to promote regional economic integration.

Background and roadmap

This initiative follows a roadmap adopted in January by the Algeria-Tunisia bilateral commission to promote the development of border regions. Key projects include the creation of a joint free trade zone between Taleb Larabi (Algeria) and Hazoua (Tunisia).

Challenges and opportunities

This initiative highlights joint efforts to improve economic relations and promote regional integration and is a concrete example of successful cross-border cooperation.
