Speaking on National Radio, Houari Abdellatif, the Deputy Director of Export Monitoring and Support at the Ministry of Trade, said the trade balance had reached a "very positive" level in the 2022 January-November period, after recording a surplus of around US$18.1 billion, compared to US$1.8 billion in 2021.
Non-hydrocarbon exports account for 11% of the overall export rate, which is "a historic first", where the Algerian economy managed to increase its quota of non-hydrocarbon exports to "a double-digit rate", he added.
Non-hydrocarbon exports reached US$6.06 billion by the end of November, a 36% increase compared to the same period in 2021, the same official continued, predicting that the value of exports could be between US$6.5 billion and US$7 billion by the end of 2022.
According to Mr. Houari, new products have broken export records, such as detergents and cardboard (more than $9 million), mineral and soft drinks (nearly $17 million) and other popular products in African countries.
Mr. Houari said the government is working to maintain the high momentum in non-hydrocarbon exports to reach $10 billion in 2023 and $15 billion in 2024.
