Al Rayan Real Estate Development Algeria Company has just received the qualification certificate for the development concession issued by the National Office for Agricultural Land (ONTA). This project, the result of an Algerian-Qatari partnership, will cover an impressive area of 1,811 hectares. It aims to develop various strategic crops, particularly cereals and fodder, in line with the programme agreed with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The scale of this investment is reflected in the planned infrastructure. Djakhdem Hadj Aissa, representative of the Al Rayan company and responsible for project management, announced the forthcoming installation of 27 irrigation pivots, in addition to the 3 already in operation. This significant increase in irrigated areas demonstrates the ambition of the project and its potential impact on local agricultural production. Local authorities have welcomed the project with enthusiasm. The Wali of El-Meniaâ, Mokhtar Benmalek, emphasised during the award ceremony of the agricultural concession law that this project will consolidate agricultural production capacities in the region. He assured that his services would work to overcome any difficulties in the implementation of this promising investment, in particular by speeding up the granting of permits for the drilling of agricultural wells.
It should be noted that this new project comes at a time when another major Qatari investment in the agricultural sector is taking shape. This is the Baladna dairy project, whose shareholders' agreement was signed Thursday in Algiers between Algeria's National Investment Fund (FNI) and Qatar's Baladna. This ambitious project, worth $3.5 billion, aims to create integrated dairy cow farms and produce milk powder. Covering a total area of 117,000 hectares, it will comprise three centres, each consisting of a cereal and fodder production farm, a cow breeding and milk and meat production farm, and a milk powder production plant. The expected impact of this project is significant. Ultimately, it is expected to produce nearly 194,000 tons of milk powder per year. In addition, by the ninth year of the project, the total number of cattle is expected to reach 270,000, with an annual production of almost 1.7 billion litres of milk.
