Algeria's fishing sector aims to double its production from 100,000 tons to 200,000 tons by 2030. Advanced negotiations are underway to facilitate Algerian fishermen's access to Mauritanian waters, allowing them to direct their catches to the national market. Key measures include owning fishing vessels over 40 metres for deep-sea fishing and setting up a platform to facilitate the purchase of second-hand engines, given that around 40% of the fleet suffers from mechanical breakdowns.

The shipbuilding sector is also expanding, with nine active projects and three vessels already in operation. In addition, Algeria's national quota for bluefin tuna, which will reach 2,046 tons this year, is being supported by new fattening projects. The ministry's strategy prioritizes developing aquaculture, with a target of 60,000 tons in marine aquaculture and 40,000 tons in freshwater aquaculture. However, declining catches along the coast have led the ministry to consider a management plan to conserve natural fish resources.
