3rd Edition of the Algiers Maritime Forum on April 15 in Algiers: Shipping Finance, a First for Algeria

As part of efforts to modernize the national maritime sector, GTS, a firm specializing in this field, has chosen shipping finance—or, in simple terms, the financing of investments in this strategic branch of the national economy, given that the maritime sector accounts for 90% of Algeria’s foreign trade—as the main theme of the 3rd edition of the Algiers Maritime Forum, to be held on April 15 in Algiers.

This is a first, according to the GTS press release. “This is the first time in Algeria that shipping finance, a strategic sector, will be discussed at a forum.”

As investment in the maritime sector is substantial, “shipping finance is recognised as one of the most exclusive circles in international finance, where the major players can be counted on the fingers of one hand”, the text states.

GTS, the event organiser, states that the forum will bring together decision-makers, shipowners, investors, financial institutions, public authorities and port operators.

He emphasises the vital role of funding: “Funding is a key driver for boosting competitiveness, supporting investment and optimising the performance of maritime stakeholders.”

The event will focus on the following themes: trends in shipping finance investment; the role of banks, specialist funds and institutional investors; new models for structuring and owning maritime assets; public-private partnerships and cross-border investment; and the development of emerging maritime hubs.

The text adds that the maritime forum is a regional platform for exchange and partnership, fostering collaboration between public and private stakeholders and contributing to the sector’s strategic influence on the regional and international stage.
