Algeria is actively revitalising its hydrocarbon sector with the Algeria Bid Round 2024 tender, the first since 2014. Five exploration licenses have been awarded to foreign companies, which could increase national gas production by 20 billion m³ per year. The country aims to double its gas exports from 50 to 100 billion m³. ALNAFT emphasises that international partnerships are now essential, particularly to share exploration costs and gain access to advanced technologies.
The 2025 edition is already in the pipeline, with 11 targeted blocks, mainly with gas potential. Adjustments are envisaged to improve the attractiveness of bids, such as for the "Grand Zaïd" block. Algeria is also looking to the offshore market for 2026, with studies underway by ENI, TotalEnergies, SLB and Chevron. Thanks to a favourable hydrocarbon bill and confirmed geological potential, Algeria hopes to become a leading energy player, another time.
