At the opening of the third ordinary session of the 2024 Wilaya People's Assembly (APW), Mr Sayoud announced the freeze on the project to extend the tramway line to the Belgaïd area, to Oran's east, had been lifted, adding that work would start in 2025, followed by the extension to Es Senia airport, as reported by El Watan newspaper.

Oran's wali emphasized that this extension would ensure high-quality transport service to the Belgaïd downtown, home to tens of thousands of residents and major public infrastructure, including the university hub and the Miloud Hadefi sports complex.

The first section of the Oran tramway, covering 18.7 km and 32 stations, has been in service since 2 May 2013., serving Sidi Maârouf, Haï Sabah, the campus of the University of Science and Technology (USTO), the crossroads of the 3 clinics, the law courts, Dar El Beïda, the Plateau Saint-Michel district, Oran downtown (Place du 1er novembre), M'dina El Djadida, Boulanger and Es Senia.

Seven towns in Algeria are served by trams: Algiers, Constantine, Sétif, Mostaganem, Oran, Sidi Bel Abbes and Ouargla.
