Maritime transport: Two major shipbuilding workshops created

The Minister of Transport, Saïd Sayoud, held a meeting with the CEO of the Groupe algérien de transport maritime (GATMA), and its subsidiaries, represented by the Managing Director of the Société Nationale de Transport Maritime de Passagers (ENMTV) (National Maritime Passenger Transport Company) and the Managing Director of the Société Nationale de Réparation Navale (ERENAV) (National Ship Repair Company).

According to a Ministry press release, the agenda included a review of how to develop the national maritime transport sector. This meeting is part of a series launched by the Minister of Transport and the heads of public economic establishments in the maritime transport sector to review and assess their performance.

After presentations on the activities, work plans and prospects of ENTMV and ERENAV, the Minister gave instructions including the study for the creation of two large ship repair workshops, in the centre and west of the country, to increase capacity and contribute to the acceleration of the rate of maintenance and repair of ships and boats, adds the same source.

The Minister also stressed the need to attach the utmost importance to the human element and its training, calling for the encouragement of young managers, researchers and start-ups.

In his speech, the Minister recalled that the development of maritime transport, the accession to the rank of great countries and the realization of the desired change, require special attention and concerted efforts to overcome all difficulties and challenges.

In conclusion, the Minister reaffirmed that his "hand" would always be outstretched to provide all the facilities and advice needed to achieve the objectives set.
