This annual festival is dedicated exclusively to natural, handmade crafts and cultural events in the areas of folklore and folk dancing. More than 2,000 artisans representing 160 countries participated in this 39th edition, held this year under the slogan "From Local to Global".

The artisan Hocine Nedjar, a native of the K'sar of Ghardaïa, represented Algeria in general and Ghardaïa in particular with a hand-woven natural wool carpet in bright colours, predominantly red ochre, with patterns representing the rich cultural heritage of the M'zab Valley. With this carpet, a true masterpiece of craftsmanship, Hocine Nedjar won second prize, while first prize went to Egypt with a carpet from the Siwa region in southern Egypt. In fact, for Hocine Nedjar, who kindly welcomed us to his old carpet shop in the market square of Ghardaïa, "It all happened very quickly. I was invited to participate in this festival in India by Her Excellency SWATI VUAY KULKRNI, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Algeria, during her visit to Ghardaia at the beginning of the first week of January 2026.

It was at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI M'zab) in Ghardaïa that I received this invitation to participate from Her Excellency, the Ambassador of the Republic of India, with all expenses paid and full support provided by the host country. Within a few days, everything was ready: visa, plane ticket, etc.

It was upon arriving in India that I learned that other compatriots were participating and had been invited just as I had. Three artisans excelled in the arts of ceramics, leather tanning and burnous weaving.
