The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has stated unequivocally that we must move away from traditional agriculture and fully embrace new technologies. The transformation underway is based primarily on one observation: in a world subject to climate change and market tensions, food security has become a necessity for Algeria. Produce more, produce better, produce sustainably: this is the equation that Algeria intends to solve.

Mechanization tailored to specific needs

As part of this initiative, a National Council for Agricultural Mechanization has been set up, gathering experts, researchers, and professionals to develop a coherent, operational strategy to shorten the path to efficient, competitive agriculture. It is not just a question of importing equipment or increasing the number of machines on farms, but of intelligently integrating technology into the realities of the field. Mechanization must be adapted to the specific characteristics of the soil, the crops grown, and the capabilities of farmers.

At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture has launched a comprehensive program to upgrade agricultural equipment. This initiative aims to improve yields, particularly for strategic crops such as cereals. The stated goal (to exceed 30 quintals per hectare) reflects a desire to align national production with higher standards. But modernization is not limited to the fields. It encompasses the entire agricultural value chain.

Land and technology are no longer at odds

Large-scale projects are underway to develop strategic sectors and establish a national high-capacity storage network. This infrastructure will make it possible to absorb production peaks, limit post-harvest losses, and stabilize markets. Here again, planning and anticipation are key. However, achieving the objectives set by President Tebboune depends on an essential alliance: that of scientific expertise and farmers' know-how. Technology can only be effective if it is supported, explained, and appropriated. Training, technical support, and agricultural extension will play a decisive role in this transition.

On the ground, the initial feedback is encouraging. Many farmers welcome the efforts being made and support this vision of a renewed agriculture. They see it as an opportunity to improve their yields, reduce the drudgery of work, and optimize the use of water and inputs. The path forward is now clear. The goal is to build a productive, resilient, and sovereign agricultural sector. Algeria is thus entering a new era, one in which land and technology no longer oppose each other but work together to secure the country's food future.
