President Tebboune launches the operation of the 950 km Gara Djebilet–Tindouf–Béchar railway line
On Sunday afternoon in the Wilaya of Béchar, President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune officially launched the operation of the 950 km railway line connecting Gara Djebilet to Tindouf and Béchar.
On this occasion, the Head of State welcomed the first passenger train from Tindouf at Béchar station. He also attended the arrival of a train carrying the first quantities of iron ore extracted from the Gara Djebilet mine. He then gave the signal for the departure of the train carrying these first shipments of iron ore from the Gara Djebilet mine to Oran via Béchar.
During this visit, President Tebboune greeted the workers of the Société Nationale des Transports Ferroviaires (SNTF) (National Railway Transport Company) and all those involved in the construction of this infrastructure. He also spoke with passengers on board the first train to run on the western mining line.
In a speech delivered at the launch of this strategic megaproject, President Tebboune said that the inauguration of the western mining railway line was "the first step in a major national project that will transform, in the short term, this region of our Great South and contribute to achieving our national economic objectives towards the exploitation of the multiple resources of Gara Djebilet, the launch of the Oued Amizour zinc-lead mine in Bejaïa, and the completion of the Bled El Hadba mine railway line and the Annaba mining quay."
