Algeria officially launches the voluntary carbon market and MRV (measurement, reporting and verification) system in the waste sector, as part of the AIM-WELL project. This strategic program, implemented with the UNDP and financed by the Global Environment Facility, is part of the country's transition to a sustainable circular economy. Running from 2023 to 2028, it is based on digitisation, local innovation and community participation. Constantine and Sétif will serve as pilot sites for experimenting with scientific and participatory waste management. The project also includes legislative reform, the implementation of an intelligent waste monitoring system, and the active involvement of young people and civil society. The ambition is to make Algeria a regional model for the green economy, by transforming environmental challenges into levers for development and employment.
