A meeting chaired by the Minister of Energy and Mines and attended by Noureddine Yassaa, Commissioner for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, highlighted the talent of Lakhdar Hamidatou, an Algerian engineer who was awarded the ENI 2024 Young African Talent Prize.
Lakhdar Hamidatou, a graduate of the National Polytechnic School of Constantine and a native of El Oued, has developed an innovative solution for cooling photovoltaic solar panels, which lose up to 30% of their efficiency due to high temperatures, especially in desert regions.
*Technology used: Phase-change materials that absorb heat during the day and release it at night, allowing solar panels to operate at their best.
*Support for innovation
-The Ministry of Energy and Mines pledged its support for Hamidatou's project as part of national efforts to achieve 15,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2035.
-Hamidatou expressed her desire to see more young Algerian talent succeed internationally and is committed to mentoring the next generation of researchers.
Prestigious recognition
The 16th edition of the ENI Awards attracted over 11,000 participants, a jury of international experts and six Nobel Laureates.
-Hamidatou's innovative device was recognised for its potential to address global solar energy challenges.
