Béjaïa: Launch of development work on access to the zinc and lead mine in Amizour and Tala Hamza

Preparatory work on improving access to the zinc and lead mine located in the municipalities of Amizour and Tala Hamza (wilaya of Béjaïa) began on Tuesday in anticipation of the launch of this major project.

Work to launch operations at the Tala Hamza–Amizour zinc and lead mine in the province of Bejaïa was officially launched by Wali Kamel Eddine Kerbouche in the presence of officials from the Sonarem group and ENOF. This strategic project follows the completion of administrative procedures and the removal of constraints related to its implementation, in accordance with instructions from higher authorities.

The mine aims to produce approximately 170,000 tonnes of zinc and 30,000 tonnes of lead annually, making it one of the largest mining projects in the country. The authorities have highlighted its role in promoting Algerian mineral resources, strengthening economic sovereignty and creating jobs for young people in the region. The project is also expected to boost the local economy and will be closely monitored to ensure that deadlines and technical standards are met.
