During a session of the National People's Assembly, the Minister of Agriculture announced that the National Agricultural Mutual Insurance Fund (CNMA) is modernizing its insurance products to provide better coverage for risks related to climate hazards, particularly in the cereal sector. A new insurance system against climatic disasters such as drought and wind is currently being studied to complement existing mechanisms. This approach aims to better respond to the impacts of climate change on agricultural production. In 2024, more than 4,200 farmers were compensated for an amount exceeding 387 million dinars. In addition, drought-resistant seeds will be introduced as early as the next agricultural season, in partnership with research centres, and shall be progressively replaced by local varieties. In terms of animal health, the ministry will open up the field to private veterinary laboratories to strengthen coverage, complementing the 14 existing public laboratories. A new laboratory will also be set up in Djelfa.
