This meeting took place as part of the 7th round of Algerian-Indian political consultations, attended by the ambassadors of both countries, as well as the Secretary of State for Mines, Karima Bekir Tafer, and several senior officials from the sector.
On this occasion, both sides praised the strength of the historic ties between Algiers and New Delhi, and the positive momentum in bilateral relations. This momentum has been further strengthened following the state visit in October 2024 by the Indian President, Droupadi Murmu, and her talks with the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Discussions focused primarily on the prospects for strengthening cooperation in strategic sectors, including hydrocarbons, mining and seawater desalination. Both delegations reaffirmed their shared commitment to consolidating this partnership and broadening its scope.
On this occasion, Arkab highlighted the Algerian energy sector's investment opportunities, calling on Indian companies to become more involved in oil and gas projects, from upstream to downstream, including exploration, production, infrastructure and engineering. The official also emphasised the importance of strengthening commercial cooperation with Sonatrach, particularly in the marketing of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and petroleum products.
Discussions also focused on partnership opportunities in the petrochemical industry, fertiliser production and phosphate processing, as well as in the mining sector, including research, exploration, resource extraction, geological surveys, mapping and training.
For its part, the Indian side expressed a keen interest in expanding cooperation with Algeria, emphasising technology transfer and the sharing of expertise, with a view to establishing a mutually beneficial and sustainable partnership.
