Mourad Adjal: « We will be a solar-energy country par excellence by 2035 »

Sonelgaz Group Chairman and CEO Mourad Adjal said on Tuesday that "we will be a solar power producer par excellence by 2035".

"Algeria may have a very large amount of energy at its disposal," he added, adding that the country can ensure energy security, with the President of the Republic’s ambitious 15,000 megawatt program.

The head of Sonelgaz group said that "by 2035, this energy will exceed 45,000 megawatts", recalling that Algeria consumes between 16,000 and 17,000 megawatts.

Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab said on Tuesday that the development of environmental links with southern Europe is part of the integration of the two shores of the Mediterranean through the establishment of corridors from west to east.

The Minister of Energy also indicated that the project of direct electricity interconnection between Algeria and Europe is a strategic issue and a priority for Algeria, in order to strengthen electricity exchanges between the two shores.
