Automobile : 120 dealers and manufacturers submitted applications for approval
Director General of Industrial Development at the Ministry of Industry, Ahmed Salem Zaid, announced on Wednesday that "most of the manufacturers and dealers interested in this activity have submitted their files at the ministry, where 110 and 120 applications have been identified", and this figure will be reduced after study.
As regards the importation of new vehicles, Ahmed Salem Zaid also explained, on the radio channel 1, that ‘the specifications oblige dealers to import a single brand of vehicles, by means of a contract binding them to a single car manufacturer in order to avoid the monopoly of the sales activity’.
The same official stated that ‘the authorization must be obtained directly from the original car manufacturer in the country of origin’.
As regards the automotive sector in Algeria, Mr. Zaid revealed that ‘there are many brands interested in entering the Algerian market which is considered promising in this area’.
He added: ‘At present, the identity of these marks can only be revealed after the completion of the negotiation phase.’
He indicated that the technical commissions and the appeals commissions will be installed next week, with the first imported vehicle entering the market in the first quarter of 2023.
