Household electrical appliance and electronics operators await a structuring framework

In Algeria, operators in the household electrical appliance and electronics sectors await a structured regulatory framework.

Algeria's electronics and household appliances sector, considered strategic for economic transition, has waited for a structuring regulatory framework since 2020. Despite a first version of specifications deemed inadequate, operators are hoping for its finalization to support investment, strengthen local integration and promote exports.

In the absence of a clear framework, some players have turned to disguised imports, which are detrimental to industrial development. A recent consultation with the Minister of Industry has re-launched discussions. A roadmap is currently being drawn up to :

l Clarify the status of operators.

l Establish consistent technical regulations.

l Protect the industry from harmful practices.

The plan is to map the sector's players, define fair rules to encourage local production, and establish quality standards in line with international norms.

The sector, which has already demonstrated its export potential, could thus become a pillar of national industrial development, provided a clear, structured framework is finally put in place.
